Further details about the new Mercedes Sprinter have been revealed, including a full list of specs and UK prices. The new model looks to provide game-changing technology and safety features and is available for pre-order. Starting at £24,350 excluding VAT, Mercedes is looking to release the new commercial van in June.
What’s new?
Design
The new Mercedes Sprinter is its third incarnation and will feature a vast array of new improvements and design changes. Since the initial concept, the overall design has become more box-like, with a more exaggerated angle between the windscreen and bonnet when compared to its predecessors; this design is intended to increase carrying capacity. Front and rear wheel drive is also being offered, with the former being lighter and having a lower load floor to improve load volume and allow fleet users to save on costs.
The interior is also a completely new design which balances practical use with pleasure, featuring a multimedia touchscreen, automatic climate control, USB interface, keyless start, and storage compartments with the options of lids or cupholders to name just a few. The Sprinter will be available in a range of customisable styles to suit the needs of every business, such as panel, pickup, chassis, bus or tourer, as well as an electric eSprinter model that is scheduled to go on sale in 2019.
Safety
The new Mercedes Sprinter will be one of the safest large vans around, with adaptive cruise control, safety electronics, stability control and Crosswind assist, which prevents the vehicle from rolling by braking each wheel separately. Package options with extras such as parking assist to help drivers navigate tight and tricky delivery locations will also be available.
Connectivity
However, the new Mercedes Sprinter is looking to mostly sell itself through its new and improved ‘connectivity’ software, accessible through desktop called Mercedes Pro. This will give fleet owners total control over monitoring their vehicles, providing telematics data and GPS information.
Through the sophisticated new system, fleet owners will be able to schedule maintenance, and control load areas remotely. The system is also able to be programmed by the user, so third-party software can be introduced to meet individual requirements and Mercedes says they are happy to work with collections of all sizes, from single commercial vans to large fleets.
